Baked Potatoes with Toppings

A simple meal where each family member can choose their own toppings. The oven does most of the work.

Prep: 5 minutes. Cook: 1 hour. Difficulty: Easy. Serves 4.

Ingredients

  • 4 large baking potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt
  • Toppings: butter, cheese, sour cream, baked beans, tuna, spring onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Wash potatoes and prick with a fork several times.
  3. Rub with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
  4. Place directly on oven rack. Bake for 1 hour until soft inside.
  5. Cut a cross on top. Squeeze to open.
  6. Add butter and chosen toppings.

Tips for Helpers

  • Pricking prevents the potato from bursting.
  • Test doneness by inserting a knife — it should slide in easily.
  • Prepare toppings while potatoes bake.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Sweet potatoes work well too (reduce time to 45 minutes).
  • Any toppings the family enjoys.
