Baked Potatoes with Toppings
A simple meal where each family member can choose their own toppings. The oven does most of the work.
Prep: 5 minutes. Cook: 1 hour. Difficulty: Easy. Serves 4.
Ingredients
- 4 large baking potatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt
- Toppings: butter, cheese, sour cream, baked beans, tuna, spring onions
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Wash potatoes and prick with a fork several times.
- Rub with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
- Place directly on oven rack. Bake for 1 hour until soft inside.
- Cut a cross on top. Squeeze to open.
- Add butter and chosen toppings.
Tips for Helpers
- Pricking prevents the potato from bursting.
- Test doneness by inserting a knife — it should slide in easily.
- Prepare toppings while potatoes bake.
Ingredient Substitutions
- Sweet potatoes work well too (reduce time to 45 minutes).
- Any toppings the family enjoys.
