Homemade Chicken Nuggets

Juicy chicken pieces in a crispy coating. Made with real chicken breast — far better than anything from a drive-through.

Prep: 15 minutes. Cook: 10 minutes. Difficulty: Easy. Serves 4.

Ingredients

  • 500g chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1.5 cups breadcrumbs or panko
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper
  • Oil for shallow frying or baking

Instructions

  1. Cut chicken into bite-sized nugget shapes.
  2. Season flour with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Set up three plates: seasoned flour, beaten egg, breadcrumbs.
  4. Coat each piece: flour, egg, breadcrumbs.
  5. To fry: heat 1cm oil. Fry for 3 minutes each side until golden.
  6. To bake: place on a lined tray, spray with oil, bake at 200°C for 15 minutes, turning once.
  7. Drain on paper towels if fried.

Tips for Helpers

  • Cut pieces to a similar size so they cook evenly.
  • Baking is easier for large batches.
  • Freeze uncooked breaded nuggets on a tray, then bag them for later.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Use turkey breast for a leaner version.
  • Crushed cornflakes make a crunchy alternative to breadcrumbs.
