Beef Stir-Fry
A fast and flavourful stir-fry ready in under 20 minutes. Works with rice or noodles.
Prep: 10 minutes. Cook: 8 minutes. Difficulty: Easy. Serves 4.
Ingredients
- 300g beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 broccoli head, cut into florets
- 1 carrot, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
Instructions
- Mix soy sauce and oyster sauce in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Heat oil in a wok over high heat.
- Add beef slices and stir-fry for 2 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Add garlic and ginger to the wok. Stir for 30 seconds.
- Add vegetables and stir-fry for 3 minutes until slightly tender.
- Return beef to the wok. Pour in the sauce mixture.
- Add cornstarch mixture and stir for 1 minute until the sauce thickens.
- Serve immediately with steamed rice.
Tips for Helpers
- Slice beef against the grain for tenderness.
- Keep heat high throughout cooking.
- Don't overcook the vegetables — they should still have some crunch.
Ingredient Substitutions
- Chicken or pork can replace beef.
- Any vegetables work — use what is in season.
- Soy sauce alone works if no oyster sauce is available.
