Caesar Salad

Crisp romaine lettuce with creamy Caesar dressing, crunchy croutons, and shaved parmesan. A timeless salad.

Prep: 15 minutes. Cook: 10 minutes. Difficulty: Easy. Serves 4.

Ingredients

  • 2 heads romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 100g parmesan, shaved
  • 2 slices bread, cubed for croutons
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • For dressing: 3 tablespoons mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, 1 clove garlic (grated), 2 tablespoons grated parmesan, 1 tablespoon olive oil, Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Make croutons: toss bread cubes with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Bake at 200°C for 8 minutes until golden.
  2. Make dressing: whisk mayonnaise, lemon juice, mustard, garlic, parmesan, and olive oil until smooth.
  3. Place chopped lettuce in a large bowl.
  4. Drizzle with dressing and toss well.
  5. Top with croutons and shaved parmesan.
  6. Serve immediately.

Tips for Helpers

  • Homemade croutons are much better than shop-bought.
  • Dress the salad just before serving — lettuce wilts quickly.
  • Add grilled chicken for a more substantial meal.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Store-bought Caesar dressing works in a pinch.
  • Any crunchy lettuce works if romaine is unavailable.
