Homemade Pizza
Homemade pizza with a simple dough and your choice of toppings. A fun cooking activity for the whole family.
Prep: 20 minutes (plus 30 min rising). Cook: 12 minutes. Difficulty: Medium. Serves 4.
Ingredients
- 300g strong bread flour (or plain flour)
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 200ml warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 100ml tomato sauce or passata
- 200g mozzarella, grated or sliced
- Toppings of choice: pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, olives, ham
Instructions
- Mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
- Add warm water and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover with a damp cloth. Let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 250°C (or highest setting).
- Divide dough in two. Roll each piece into a circle on a floured surface.
- Place on a baking tray or pizza stone.
- Spread tomato sauce, add cheese and toppings.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
Tips for Helpers
- The oven must be very hot — preheat for at least 15 minutes.
- Do not overload with toppings or the base goes soggy.
- If you do not have time for rising, the dough still works — just less airy.
Ingredient Substitutions
- Use shop-bought pizza bases or pita bread for a quick version.
- Flatbread dough (no yeast) works as an alternative.
