Simple Omelette

A versatile egg dish that works for any meal of the day. Customise fillings based on what is available.

Prep: 5 minutes. Cook: 5 minutes. Difficulty: Easy. Serves 1.

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper
  • Fillings: cheese, ham, mushrooms, tomatoes, or herbs

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat butter in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
  3. Pour in eggs. Let set for 30 seconds.
  4. Gently push edges toward centre, tilting pan to let uncooked egg flow to edges.
  5. Add fillings to one half when top is almost set.
  6. Fold the other half over. Slide onto a plate.

Tips for Helpers

  • Medium heat prevents browning.
  • Don't overfill — less is more with omelettes.
  • A non-stick pan makes this much easier.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Any cheese works.
  • Use whatever vegetables are available.
  • Oil can replace butter.
