French Toast

Bread soaked in a sweet egg mixture and pan-fried until golden. A quick, indulgent breakfast or brunch.

Prep: 5 minutes. Cook: 10 minutes. Difficulty: Easy. Serves 4.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick bread (brioche, white, or sourdough)
  • 3 eggs
  • 100ml milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Butter for frying
  • Maple syrup, honey, or fresh fruit for serving

Instructions

  1. Whisk eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon in a wide bowl.
  2. Melt butter in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
  3. Dip each bread slice in the egg mixture — about 5 seconds each side.
  4. Place in the pan. Cook for 2–3 minutes until golden underneath.
  5. Flip. Cook the other side for 2 minutes.
  6. Serve with maple syrup, honey, or fresh fruit.

Tips for Helpers

  • Do not soak the bread too long — a quick dip is enough.
  • Medium heat prevents burning while ensuring the egg cooks through.
  • Thick bread works best — thin bread falls apart.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Use any bread — slightly stale bread actually works better.
  • Almond milk works for a dairy-free version.
