Grilled Halloumi

Golden, squeaky halloumi cheese grilled until crispy on the outside. Quick, simple, and irresistibly good.

Prep: 2 minutes. Cook: 5 minutes. Difficulty: Easy. Serves 4.

Ingredients

  • 250g halloumi cheese, sliced 1cm thick
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Fresh mint (optional)
  • Honey or chilli flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice halloumi into 1cm thick pieces.
  2. Heat a non-stick pan or grill over medium-high heat.
  3. Brush halloumi with a little olive oil.
  4. Cook for 2 minutes each side until golden brown.
  5. Serve immediately with lemon wedges.

Tips for Helpers

  • Eat immediately — halloumi goes rubbery as it cools.
  • Do not add oil to the pan — just brush the cheese.
  • High heat gives the best colour and texture.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Paneer can work as a substitute.
  • Bake at 200°C for 10 minutes if you prefer.
